Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship device Xiaomi Mi 6 has been in news for quite a while now. This device has successfully managed to keep the rumour mill running and hence it can be said without any doubt that the Xiaomi Mi 6 is one of the most highly anticipated devices of 2017. Although, Xiaomi has been trying its best to keep the Mi 6 under wraps, however, even that hasn’t prevented the leaks from surfacing online.
In, the latest leaks, an image has been posted online by MyDrivers showing the AnTuTu benchmarks of the Xiaomi Mi 6. According to the reports, Mi 6 will be the first smartphone to pack Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. Snapdragon 835 SoC is the fastest yet processor to be developed by the market leader Qualcomm. Mi 6 is rumoured to come in Black, White and Blue colour variants with 128GB and 256GB internal memory options.
With all eyes set on the launching of Xiaomi Mi 6, it has been rumoured to be launched on February 6th of this year. Earlier some reports claimed that Xiaomi is pushing its launch to April 2017 due to the limited manufacturing of the Snapdragon 835 SoC by the rival Samsung. Samsung is also going to pack its next flagship Samsung Galaxy S8 with the same processor so, it was predicted that Samsung might first use 835 SoC for its smartphones instead of selling it to a hard rival like Xiaomi. After all, Samsung has been fast losing its markets to newcomers like Xiaomi and OnePlus. But, the same was later refuted and a user on Weibo has claimed that Xiaomi has already procured the required number of 835 SoC chipsets for its upcoming flagship and thus we might be able to see the Xiaomi Mi 6 on February 6th this year.
Another Weibo user has shared a screenshot of AnTuTu benchmark report for an allegedly “prototype” Xiaomi Mi 6. The report showed a yet unparalleled score of 210,329 by the Xiaomi Mi 6. This impressive AnTuTu score can be attributed to the 835 SoC. The 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC was put on display at the ongoing CES this week and has been described by Qualcomm as the most efficient processor for smartphones. Till date the most an Android smartphone could score on AnTuTu was 163,578 and it was scored by Snapdragon 821 SoC powered OnePlus 3T. However, iPhone 7 Plus has an even better score of 183,106.
Even if the pictures are real, an impressive AnTuTu benchmark isn’t a guarantee for a smartphone’s actual performance. Qualcomm has said that the new Snapdragon 835 SoC is being built on a 10nm FinFET fabrication and is going to deliver 27 percent high performance with 40 percent lesser battery consumption over the 821 SoC. They further added, “The combination of the CPU, GPU, DSP and software framework support in the Snapdragon 835 offers a highly-capable heterogeneous compute platform.”
