Reliance Jio Planning To Extend Its Free Offer But There’s A Catch

Been enjoying the free services of Reliance Jio for a while, aren’t you? Well, we all have been enjoying the free internet and free calls offered by Reliance Jio over the past few months. First, it was the Jio Welcome Offer which ended on 31st December 2016. However, Reliance fans didn’t have to get dismayed as soon Reliance started the Happy New Year Plan offering the same Jio services like free calls and internet amidst huge protests from its competitors. The Happy New Year Plan

The Jio Happy New Year Plan is supposed to end up on 31st March 2017 and is slightly different from the Jio Welcome Offer as a speed cap has been imposed over a daily usage of 1GB. But other than that there isn’t any major difference. Jio has amassed a huge number of users by poaching the customer base of its rivals. Users have not only been enjoying the free calls and data but also the premium Jio Apps like the Jio TV which provides free Hotstar Premium membership.

All of us have become so used to the free services of Jio now that hearts sunk even at the thought of thinking when the free services of Jio will come to an end on 31st March 2017. Relax folks, as there is some great news. It is almost confirmed now that Reliance will continue its free services even after 31 March, albeit under a different program. The free program will be extended until 30 June 2017.

The calls and data will be free as it is today. However, there is a catch. Reliance has been testing waters for some time now and it is high time that it would really like to know of its true consumer base when it ends its free services. It is highly probable that a nominal charge of INR 100 might be levied by Reliance Jio to offer the current services. By doing so it will be able to protect itself from the wrath of TRAI and the criticisms of its rivals as well as gauge its true consumer base which are willing to permanently shift to the Jio network once this transition phase ends.

It is also possible that Reliance will charge the INR 100 only for the data while the calls will remain free. Whatever it is, we’ll know very soon and will keep you updated.
