Reliance Jio Might Very Soon Launch 4G VoLTE Feature Phones For As Low As Rs.999

Reliance Jio has for sure taken over the telecom market by storm in the last few months. It has not only invaded the customer base of the major telcos but has even adversely affected the sales of low-budget smartphone makers by tagging itself with LYF to make low-cost smartphones with 4G VoLTE support.

Reliance Jio has been providing free 4GB 4G Data and Unlimited calls since mid-2016 to lure customers under its Reliance Jio Welcome Offer. However, this offer ended on 31 December 2016, but only to be further extended till 31 March 2017, with the only minor change that post 1GB data consumption, the speeds will be capped every day. The list of pros and cons of Reliance Jio is far too long and I would prefer not to delve into this topic in this article.

However, it seems that this is not the end to the surprises by Reliance Jio. According to a report published in the Hindustan Times, Reliance Jio might very soon launch feature phones with voice over LTE (VoLTE) support for prices as low as Rs.999. The company is expected to launch two phones with VoLTE support in the ballpark of Rs.999 and Rs.1,499. These feature phones are expected to come equipped with both front and rear cameras and will offer all the Jio premium apps along with other Jio services like free calling, SMSes and unlimited 4G internet.

This very much reminds us of the old CDMA Reliance handsets and these devices might work on the same lines. Reliance Jio might even make some more attractive offers with these phones to attract customers like more data or something like that. Reliance Jio has been reportedly in talks with mobile chip makers like Qualcomm and MediaTek regarding this is expected to have these devices manufacturer from the Chinese company Spreadtrum.

India has still over half a billion mobile users who use feature phones and this step by Mr.Ambani indeed seems to be very prudent and prospective in nature.
