It just seems a few days ago when Nokia used to rule the smartphone market. But then came Android and Nokia’s reluctance to adopt Android ruined everything for it. Even its absorption into Microsoft couldn’t change its fate. However, Nokia’s new guardians HMD Global seems to be trying to undo Nokia’s past mistakes by jumping into the Android arena. This was widely known that a Nokia-branded Android device was on its way, but we were expecting it to be unveiled somewhere around the MWC. But to everyone’s surprise, HMD Global has released the Nokia 6 on its official website.
Nokia 6 is a mid-range smartphone and runs stock Android 7.0 Nougat. The device sports a 5.5-inch FHD display with 2.5D Gorilla Glass protection under an all-metal 6000 series Aluminium chassis. The device looks very premium and elegant and lives up to the standards of earlier Nokia devices which boasted of great build quality.
As far as the performance is concerned, the Nokia 6 is powered by a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The SoC is good enough to take care of all your day-to-day activities and with 4GB of RAM onboard you can forget any hanging issues. Much to the happiness of many users, the Nokia 6 supports dual SIM cards and packs a 3,000 mAh battery which should provide enough juice to last you a day.
In the camera department, there is a 16MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF and dual-tone flash. There is an 8MP camera with f/2.0 aperture on the front for selfies and video chats. Just like it’s predecessors, the Nokia 6 lives up to Nokia’s name in the camera department. Apart from this, there is a fingerprint sensor embedded in the home button and features Dolby Atmos and dual amplifiers for great sound quality.
However, there’s a bad news too. The Nokia N6 will be a China exclusive device and will go on sale through JD.com at 1699 CNY (approx Rs. 16,750) in early 2017. The company has made it clear that this device won’t be released in other global markets. But on the brighter side, it has said, “Nokia 6 marks the first step for the Nokia brand into Android smartphones with more to come in H1 2017.”
So let us wish that more Nokia Android smartphones will be released globally this year and it will hopefully revive Nokia’s old glory.
