Apple finally unveiled the much-anticipated iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus at its San Francisco event just minutes ago along with the Apple Watch Series 2 and Apple AirPod. The Cupertino giant finally ended the months-long frenzy of the fans who had been waiting for this launch event like anything. To be very frank, the launch event didn’t have many surprises for us in the bag thanks to the tonnes of leaks that had already surfaced over the past few months. Except for the bold move of removing the 3.5mm headphone jack altogether, there was nothing outrageously innovative or new about these iPhones. Here’s a detailed analysis on both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus:
DESIGN & DISPLAY
If there has been one department where Apple iPhones have reigned as undisputed kings, then that is the design segment. iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are no exception to this and look amazingly stunning. The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus sport a gorgeous new design with curved edges and a mirrored finish rear panel. These are made up of magnetized ionized particles and the devices are very sleek and thin.
As far as the display is concerned, the iPhone 7 sports a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with wide gamut and a 25 percent increase in brightness. While the iPhone 7 Plus sports the same display but albeit of a larger 5.5-inch.
Both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be powered by the latest A10 chipset which houses a 64-bit quad-core processor which is said to be 40% faster than its predecessor A9 and almost twice as fast as the A8. There is a huge step up in terms of the graphics as well as Apple claims a 50% increase in graphic performance from the A9.
In terms of storage both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will come in three storage variants of 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB. Thank God, Apple finally dumped the 16GB model.
The iPhone 7 sports an all new six-lens 12MP camera with a wider f/1.8 aperture and a wide colour gamut. It sports a Quad-LED True Tone flash and is capable and supports RAW image capture. The sensors are almost 30 percent faster than that of the iPhone 6s.
The iPhone 7 Plus on the other hand sports a very interesting dual rear camera setup. There are two lenses; a wide-angle and a telephoto lens. This camera offers 2x optical zoom and up to 10x with software zoom. Apple promises DSLR-like photography with the iPhone 7 Plus and has equipped it with various rich effects.
Both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus feature a 7MP front camera with auto image stabilization on the front for selfies and video chat.
OTHER NOTABLE FEATURES
Both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have been certified IP67 water and dust resistant, so don’t worry anymore while carrying your iPhone to pool parties or searching for a plastic bag while caught in heavy rains.
Another notable feature of these new iPhones is the stereo sound on the speakers which is a first on iPhones.
As for the battery is concerned, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will have the longest battery life ever on an iPhone. The iPhone 7 will have 2 more hours over the iPhone 6s, while the iPhone 7 Plus will have offer one more hour battery life than the 6s.
And yes, the news about the complete removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack is true. There is no headphone jack, instead, Apple has bundled lightning earbuds and has even introduced a new wireless AirPod. Apple calls this a courageous move. Apple has also included a 3.5mm to lightning converter dongle in the box thankfully.
