The much awaited Huawei flagship was finally unveiled at an event in Munich, Germany yesterday. The Chinese smartphone maker finally took off the wraps off the Huawei Mate 9. The Mate 9 has been in news for some quite time now and thanks to over a dozen of leaks, almost all the specs and features were already well-known. Still, Huawei managed to impress us with some of the features especially it’s Leica camera.
The Mate 9 sports an all-metal unibody design around a huge 5.9-inch 2K IPS display with 2.5D glass. 2K might not sound too good to many, but if you’re looking for a qHD display, Huawei will be soon bringing the 5.5-inch Huawei Porsche Design Mate 9. The Mate 9 is indeed a humongous device and weighs roughly around 190g.
The device is powered by a very powerful octa-core Kirin 960 processor consisting of four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.4GHz and an another quartet of Cortex-A53 cores clocking at 1.8GHz. The powerful processor is coupled with the latest Bifrost gen ARM Mali-G71 MP8 and 4GB of RAM. This much horsepower should be good enough to take care of almost anything from day to day tasks to heavy games without a hiccup.
The Mate 9 packs an amazing 4,000 mAh battery with Super Charge support and a 5A charger. The device offers dual-SIM support, LTE, USB Type-C and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor with gesture functionalities. Huawei Mate 9 offers 64GB of internal storage which can be further expanded via microSD card. The device runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with the latest EMUI 5.0 atop.
The major highlight of the Mate 9 is, however, it’s camera. The device has a 2nd gen Leica camera. This dual-camera setup consists of a 20MP f/2.2 monochrome and a 12MP f/2.2 colour sensor. Both the sensors are further enhanced by OIS, dual-tone dual-LED flash and a new 4-in-1 hybrid autofocus which includes depth, contrast, phase and laser autofocus. There is also a Hybrid Zoom feature which would allow users to zoom without having to suffer a significant loss in picture quality. The Mate 9 also supports 4K video recording. There is an 8MP camera with a f/1.9 aperture on the front for selfies and video chats.
The Huawei Mate 9 will be very soon released in China, Europe, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Thailand, UAE, Saudi Arabia and a few other countries. We expect a US release very soon too. The device will be made available in six colour variants: Space Gray, Moonlight Silver, Champagne Gold, Mocha Brown, Ceramic White, and Black and carries a price tag of €699. We’ll soon come with a detailed review of the Huawei Mate 9 as soon as we lay our hands on this very promising device.
