Before getting started you need to make sure that your computer supports Miracast, which is a screen-mirroring protocol that lets you broadcast anything from an Intel computer or an Android device to your TV.

You also need to know that Miracast does not always work well, and there are only a few Miracast receivers that actually work well in practice.

Does Your Computer Support Miracast

Your computer most likely has Miracast support in case it originally came with Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 operating system. Those who upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 may not have this support.

However, there is a simple solution in case your computer does not support Miracast. You can easily make use of ScreenBeam USB Transmitter from Actiontec. This little device enables wireless display on Windows 7/8 laptops. Even though they do not have the capability for wireless display.

You can also use The ScreenBeam Wireless Display Kit which includes both USB Transmitter for Windows 7/8 Laptops and computers, and also a Miracast Adapter for your Television.

Miracast Adapter for Television

Next, you will need a Miracast adapter (also known as a dongle) for your television. These adapters just plug into the HDMI port of a television and make it possible for your computer to communicate with the display device without using any cables/wires.

You can find Miracast adapters from a variety of manufacturers. Your best bet would be Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter ($59) because it comes from Microsoft and ScreenBeam Pro Wireless Receiver which is compatible with Windows 10.

Make sure that the firmware for the adapter is updated to the latest version by going to the Support section of the manufacturer’s website. Search for your specific device and follow the instructions to download and install that firmware.
