How to Enable and Disable Cookies on Chrome

Cookies are small files that are sent to your computer. These cookies are required to save your settings and preferences. Many sites have probably prompted you to enable or allow cookies but the problem is you really don’t know how to enable cookies.

You could also be in a situation where you want to disable cookies on Chrome because your computer is getting viruses. In this article we will guide you and show you how to enable & disable cookies in Chrome.

How to Enable Cookies On Chrome

Follow these steps to enable or allow all cookies in the Chrome browser.

1. Click on the 3 bar Customize Google Chrome button located at the top right corner of your screen. (See image below in step 2)

2. Click on Settings in the drop-down menu.

Once you click on settings you will be directed to a new page.

3. Scroll down to the bottom of the new page and click on the Show Advanced Settings link.

4. Go to the privacy section and click on Content settings.

5. Select Allow Local Data to be set option. (See image below)

How to Disable Cookies On Chrome

Follow the steps below to disable cookies in the Chrome browser. You will notice that the first 4 steps below are the same as those listed in How to Enable Cookies section.

1. Click on the 3 bar Customize Google Chrome button located at the top right corner of your screen.

2. Click on Settings in the drop-down menu.

3. Scroll down to the bottom of the new page and click on the Show Advanced Settings link.

4. Go to the privacy section and click on Content settings.

5. Select Block Sites From Setting Any Data or Block Third Party Cookies and Site Data option (See image below)

Note: Disabling Cookies may make websites unusable.

How to Enable Cookies for Certain Sites Only

Follow the steps below in case you want to allow cookies for certain sites only while blocking all other sites from setting cookies on your computer.

1. Click on the 3 bar Customize Google Chrome icon

2. Click on Settings in the drop-down menu.

3. Click on the Show Advanced Settings link.

4. Go to the privacy section and click on Content settings.

5. Underneath the cookies section click on the manage exceptions button. (See image below)

6. Click on the Hostname pattern field and enter the domain name for which you want to allow cookies. (See image below)

Note: You need to insert [*.] before the domain name (e.g. [*.]google.com). This will cover exceptions for all the variations of Google such as drive.google.com and calendar.google.com and so on.

7. Make sure that setting under behavior section is set to Allow

8. Click on the Done button to save your settings.

How to Disable Cookies for Certain Sites Only

You may want to disable cookies for certain websites only while all other websites to set cookies on your computer. You can easily do this by following the steps below. You will see that steps 1-6 are the same as those in “How to allow cookies for certain sites” section.

1. Click on the 3 bar Customize Google Chrome icon

2. Click on Settings in the drop-down menu.

3. Click on the Show Advanced Settings link.

4. Go to the privacy section and click on Content settings.

5. Underneath the cookies section click on the manage exceptions button. (See image below)

6. Click on the Hostname pattern field and enter the domain name for which you want to disable Cookies.

Note: Insert [*.] before the domain name (e.g. [*.]badsite.com). This will cover exceptions for all variations of badsite.com.

7. Choose Block under the behavior section

8. Click on Done to save settings for this website.

You can add more websites to the list of websites that you want to block cookies from by following these steps over again.
