We call it … Pixel. Google on yesterday evening had at an event in San Francisco, there it announced its new phone “Google Pixel“. The phone is built by HTC and has an aluminum enclosure. On the back you will find a glass panel. It can be a formidable competitor for the iPhone and for a number of reasons. Google seems plan to shift more towards Apple by releasing hardware under its own brand (keyword: #madebygoogle).
Hence we suspiciously follow what Google announced today, as we see in the announcement a few points where they are clearly in the attack on Apple. On what points Pixel can be a threat?
Google Pixel vs iPhone
Actually, it’s the third time Google is embarking on their own phone. Earlier there were the Nexus phone and the acquisition of Motorola. Google’s new Pixel phones will be different in certain respects than the Nexus phones that they have previously announced. Especially in the field of software.
The Pixel phones will come with the latest version of Android (nougat) and they receive monthly security updates – something unusual for Android users. When the Nexus phones users were accustomed that they got a ‘bare’ stock version of Android, without all kinds of peels and extras. At Pixel is precisely the intention that all sorts of extras sitting on top of Android 7 Nougat like the Pixel Launcher. Just those extras to make the Pixel and Pixel XL attractive.
A brief comparison of the main features:
Threat 1: Google Assistant
The Pixel phones are the first that Google Assistant standard on it. This is Google’s answer to Siri and Alexa, the two most intelligent assistants. Google Assistant is more advanced than Google Now and more aware of the context. You also get access to third-party apps such as WhatsApp and OpenTable.
By keyword or by pressing the home button (a well-known act for iPhone users) gives you the Assistant appear. You can retrieve photos from last October and for example if you’ve been at a concert you might ask what is currently doing in the concert hall. You get to see the performances of this month. Then you can ask to play a song from a band, then YouTube starts and you can liken the song.
You can also get information about locations, such as a restaurant where you’ve never been before. Then you can book a table, all with your voice and natural language. It is very similar to Siri, but Google’s Assistant can remember things and knows ‘everything’ you.The assistant can tune them the information and suggestions. The Assistant also displays contextual information based on what you see on your screen.

Threat 2: Camera
The new Pixel devices have a 12.3 megapixel camera on the back with an aperture of f/2.0. The iPhone 7 has an aperture of f/1.8 and so let in more light, but the number of megapixels is 12 approximately equal. Apple puts strongly at the new devices focusing on camera functions, but would thereby sometimes Google can find on its way.
The independent reviewers of DXOMark had even all the opportunity to test the Pixel camera and give it a grade 89, the highest ever for a smartphone. The iPhone 7 was only 86 and was overtaken by including the Galaxy S7.

The Pixel camera also features Smart Burst, which you can make a series of photos in quick succession, with the best will be selected through the use of artificial intelligence. The pixel HDR Plus offers enhanced image quality and less blur. According to Google, the camera app is fast enough to edit the photos, making them HDR Plus standard enabled. The shutter would do not suffer from lag. It is also considered video stabilization.
Threat 3: Unlimited storage
To top it off, Google holders of the Pixel free unlimited storage for backups, photos and videos, as well as the 4K videos. Compare that with Apple’s iCloud storage limited. Previously, Google has released a TV commercial in which she took the limited storage of Apple’s heel. The Pixel Camera app offers extras such as white balance and exposure, which you must install on third-party iPhone apps. The Camera app on the Pixel is also a lot more advanced than the old Nexus models.

Threat 4: Headphone Jack
Maybe Apple is just a precursor and will follow meekly Google in the future by also deleting the headphone jack, but at this time they stick to it. Pixel Pixel XL and just have a 3.5 mm jack, which can be a reason for doubting buyers still have to choose for convenience.
Threat 5: Virtual Reality
Apple is hesitant in the field of Virtual Reality. Tim Cook stressed rather Augmented Reality will have a much greater impact, but the general public remains that vague promises because there can be seen no tangible products. Google’s tonight announced the Daydream platform with its VR headset. The Pixel phones are the first to support Daydream, so if you’re a huge fan of VR is difficult to resist. VR You can play games and watch videos via YouTube, Netflix and HBO.
The Daydream View is the first glasses Daydream and is lined with fabric for a homey effect. You can be enabled smartphones in stabbing and gets a controller, but there is no proprietary hardware is in. The Daydream according to Google more comfortable than existing VR headsets and wirelessly connects to your smartphone. The controller is to store the glasses themselves.
Threat 6: AMOLED screen
The pixels have a 5- and 5.5-inch AMOLED screen, while Apple is still in the LCD era. The screens also have a higher pixel density (441ppi) relative to the iPhone. Both devices also have more RAM (4GB) but as we have seen in comparisons with other smartphones: it does not mean that they are actually faster. However, Apple’s advantage is that they make both hardware and software at risk because Google which can also (although let them eventually build by HTC device).
Threat 7: Blue coloring
And finally, the Pixel is indeed available in a blue color, while there have been waiting in vain for the iPhone 7 on. Whether you like the color blue beautiful, however, question two.
