An expert in the field of information security Indrajeet Bhuyan discovered a vulnerability in WhatsApp that allows you to cause the failure of the messenger by sending a large number of emoticons.
Sending 6600 icons in WhatsApp to the recipient causes a failure in the program on computers and mobile devices running Android, and on iPhone it causes a long hang. According to Inderjeet, sometimes a failure can cause only by sending 4200 smiles.
After receiving the set of emoticons the user can neither read nor send messages. App freezes then crashes closing WhatsApp. Look at the text and not in the notification Center, messenger hangs and returns to the desktop. To return the client to life is possible only by deleting the entire chat in its entirety.
Indian programmer made sure that the vulnerability is present on Android devices with operating system versions of Marshmallow, Lollipop and Kitkat on PC in Firefox and Google Chrome. He told about it to the developers of WhatsApp but they have not corrected the mistake.
A year ago, Indrajeet Bhuyan found another set of symbols that violates the WhatsApp. The vulnerability allows to remotely affect the operation of messenger that is installed on the mobile device. This was enough to send the recipient a text message consisting of 2000 words (2 KB).
After this the creators of WhatsApp have introduced a limit on the length of the forwarded message that solved the problem. However, as now found by expert, limitations on the number of emoticons was not provided.
