Android is all about utility, over the time it has refined itself and has added more to its usability. Android 7.0 Nougat, the latest OS from Android has done it again and the new improvisations over the previous Android 6.0 Marshmallow are as useful and user-friendly as they can get. Here are five of the key features in the latest Android 7.0 Nougat that we absolutely loved.
Split-Screen was earlier seen on some custom ROMs and UI of some manufacturers, but now it’s a real thing in the latest Android 7.0. The split-screen allows users to operate two apps simultaneously side by side by dividing the display into two windows. Also, split screen works in both the portrait and the landscape modes. It can be activated by long pressing the recent apps button, while the user is still in an app. It can also be activated by a swipe up gesture on the overview button. Split-screen mode eases our hassle of constant switching between frequently used apps like WhatsApp, Twitter, Video player, etc. which means that Nougat users can now Youtube while replying to their job-related emails or texting friends simultaneously. There are even apps through which you can use the same app on two windows simultaneously. Isn’t it really cool?
This is undoubtedly the most utilitarian addition to Android. It saves a lot, really a lot of time and also prevents users from public embarrassment by quickly switching to another app from something which they wouldn’t want other to find. The quick switching from one app can be done by double tapping on to the recent app button. However, it only switches between the last two used apps. It also works in split-screen mode i.e., you can use three apps at the same time with Android 7.0 Nougat.
3. Doze Mode
The new doze mode will now prevent unnecessary actions from running in the background. While the device is lying idle for example- it’s lying in your pocket while you are on a bus or anything, in such situations if the display is off, the smartphone will go into an even deeper hibernation, like the automatic refreshing of available Wi-fi and GPS updates will be turned off and app syncing and unnecessary notifications and background activities of not so important apps will be killed. Doze mode is useful because it saves a lot of battery life and it further spreads out the Maintainance window.
4. Powerful Notifications
The new makeover in notifications in Android 7.0 is really remarkable, now there is a quick reply for every important app. Now users don’t need to switch between apps, they can do it directly from the notification panel. Also, the bundled notification feature includes quick actions like sharing, deleting, archiving and much more directly from the notification. Users just have to swipe down or tap at the top of the notification and the quick actions option will surface for the selected notification. This is a massive update over the sometimes annoying Google cards.
5. Seamless Updates
With Nougat, Google is introducing the concept of seamless updates, as seen earlier on Chromebooks. Seamless updates will eliminate the unnecessary delay in download, reboot and installation process; the updates will be downloaded in the background and later on stored on a different partition and the next time you restart your device the update will install in the background. Also, you won’t have to wait for minutes for the apps to upgrade after updating.
These are few of the many new features of the Android Nougat which we absolutely. Few other honourable mentions would include the night mode, UI Tuner and Customizable Quick Settings. Do let us know if have any better Nougat features in mind. Till then, stay tuned.
