How To Automatically Block Offensive Comments On Instagram

How To Automatically Block Offensive Comments On Instagram

Receiving offensive and vulgar comments on your Instagram pics and videos shouldn’t be something new. Even various celebrities including Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones have faced severe harassment over Instagram and this online harassment seems to be on the rise over the past few months. In a move to combat and tackle such harassments, the Facebook Inc. owned social media platform has come with some new measures which will provide the users with moderation tools and options through which you will be able to automatically block offensive comments.

Instagram has brought this new comments moderation tool in its latest iOS and Android App updates. The users can now very easily block inappropriate comments from showing in the comments over your photos and videos. You can even add a list of words which they consider offensive and the comments containing those offensive words won’t show up in your comments section.

All of this very simple and here’s how you can do it.

STEP 1: Update your Android or iOS Instagram App to the latest version.

STEP 2: Go to Instagram app’s settings menu and choose ‘Comments’.

STEP 4: You can further even add a list of words which you find inappropriate and offensive from                             showing up in your Instagram comments.

Once you use this moderation tool to block any offensive and inappropriate comment, the comment will become hidden from everyone including you. Only the commenters would be able to see their comment, but even they won’t know that their comment has been blocked. This has been done to ensure that there is no retaliation.

Kevin Systrom, Instagram’s CEO said in a statement, “All different types of people—from diverse backgrounds, races, genders, sexual orientations, abilities and more—call Instagram home, but sometimes the comments on their posts can be unkind. We know tools aren’t the only solution for this complex problem, but together, we can work towards keeping Instagram a safe place for self-expression.”

Let us hope that these tools will help in curbing the offensive and inappropriate comments and the mental pain and harassment caused due to these comments on Instagram.
