No, dear readers, you don’t understand, this is not another quest from G5 and not even a mysterious horror. So begins one of the most interesting indie projects of modernity – A Dark Room.
It looks like a classic MUD-quest. MUD means that you will only be presented text. Any sounds, graphics, even color. Absolute minimalism. Because of the above factors, the game is scary, alarming and rejecting at least 50% of all potential players, but they don’t even know what is really behind all of this. Assuming that this impatient and among the readers of this article, I will try to clearly explain the essence of A Dark Room from the beginning.
No graphics. No sound. No design. Before you text only. It spreads across the screen, fragmented into several independent branches, but most importantly it is fun. Kindly waved in front of his nose with black lettering, the text will take on an exciting jungle story. To give up and put the shields will be too late: you are already entirely prewrites in local twists and turns, over and over again reliving the story.
“Light the fire” — says the friendly game. You dutifully click on the inscription (the only possible way to interact with the game) and dive into the magical world. There are spells, riddles, mysterious stranger and stranger, hidden secrets and intrigue – what is this for black room in which you are located. You will learn about the world from a small paragraph of text at the bottom of the screen – but believe me, this is enough to gain your attention.
Because A Dark Room, as already mentioned, works, essentially, an interactive novel, the emphasis here is on story; but more and do not what. And the script is excellent; first-rate detective, from the beginning, literally in the throat you are pushing the bait, then gently, step by step, leads the player (reader?) according to the story. Watch the story interesting because you’re her co-author.
Game approximately every minute makes a choice. It’s not always obvious – half of the options ends with the inevitable, and often stupid, death – but always exciting: and what will be there? And the ending, believe it no, you plait your deft fingers set the direction where it will rush the flame of the narrative.
A Dark Room, of course, if not an experiment, it is an audacious spit in the direction of similar “farms”: you can do it differently, look, panties. And the only way to see if it is possible otherwise download A Dark Room; otherwise, the screen of your smartphone less and less likely to visit such an amazing game.
