Apple unveiled the brand new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus a couple of days back along with other Apple products like the Apple Watch Series 2, AirPods and iOS 10 among others. The major highlights of the release event were undoubtedly the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. As soon as the devices were unveiled, the whole tech world was abuzz, each discussing the pros and cons of the upcoming Apple flagship. Personally, I feel that both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are worthy upgrades to their predecessors although I could have loved to see a few minor changes which I would surely address in a future article. Here are the five things which I really loved about the iPhone 7:
IP67 WATER & DUST RESISTANCE
This was one feature which was being awaited for quite some time now. Apple had been dodging this feature for the past few years. Experts often argued that what was the benefit of having a $700 smartphone which is not even water or dust resistant when its other rivals like Sony and Samsung had been offering this feature in their flagships for quite some time now.
Apple finally removed these qualms too by bringing the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus with IP67 water and dust resistance. This is the best water and dust resistance certification that any device can obtain currently. So stay assured that your iPhone will now be able to endure even heavy splashes and dust storms. You don’t need to run for a plastic when caught in a heavy rain. Kudos to Apple for bringing this one.
Yup, this feature is finally here. Although many would argue that this one’s not a biggie but it is still one of the features which I had been looking out to see in the iPhone 7. iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus employ dual speakers which give a stereo effect. While one speaker grill is located on the bottom, the other speaker is placed at the top.
Audiophiles who love to play their music or videos aloud were often disappointed by the feeble output of the old iPhone mono speakers. The sound output of the iPhone 7 is twice as loud as that of the iPhone 6s. This new feature will further add to the multimedia experience and would make gaming and watching videos on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus even more enjoyable.
iPhone 7 goes Jack-less
This one’s a bit tricky. While most of the world still seems to be against this move, but I personally admire Apple for taking such a bold and courageous move. The removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack and adopting a universal lightning jack which is employed for all purposes saves a lot of space in a smartphone which can be utilised in adding extra features to a smartphone and also making it more compact and sleek. Space is everything when it comes to designing a smartphone.
And it shouldn’t be much of a problem for the old Legacy headphone users as Apple has bundled a lightning to 3.5mm converter adapter in the box. Whether this would lead to any sound quality deterioration or enhancement remains to be seen, but this seems a futuristic move to me and I applaud Apple for taking such a courageous move.
GOODBYE TO THE 16GB VARIANT
Finally, Apple thought it prudent to get rid of the meagre 16GB variant cause truthfully it was almost a brutality on the users. In a time when the Appstore contains games and apps going into few GBs, it was really harsh of Apple to provide only 16GBs to its users. Even not 16GB cause a good amount of memory was already occupied by the iOS and the pre-installed apps. I can very well sympathise with the users who were always thinking about what to keep and what to discard.
No more or at least fewer worries now as 16GB variant is history. The new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will come in three storage variants of 32GB, 128GB and 256GB. 32GB should be just good enough for most of the users and it is a very welcome move by Apple.
HUGE PERFORMACE ENHANCEMENT
You might argue that whats’s so new in it as the new flagship always sees a performance enhancement over its predecessors. But this time round, the boost in both CPU and GPU is commendable. Apple A10 A10 Fusion chip consists of a 64-bit quad-core processor which is 40 percent faster than its predecessor A9 and not only that it is far more battery efficient as it employs two high-performance cores for handling big tasks and two ‘high efficiency’ cores for handling day-to-day tasks.
The GPU is also far more efficient and powerful. Apple has claimed a 50percent more powerful GPU over the iPhone 6s and about twice as powerful GPU as that in the iPhone 6. So forget in any lags in any games and enjoy a seamless and lag free gameplay.
Well, these were the best five additions to the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus according to me. Do let us know if can think of others. Till then, stay tuned to Technohacker.
